About Sandy Thomson

Horses have always been a big part of life at Lambden and Sandy is the third generation to train from the stable’s.

His Grandfather Moffat bred MacMoffat, who was twice 2nd in the Grand National, and successfully trained and rode many horses in point to points and on the course. His father David also rode successfully in point to points and trained many winners on the course including Half Awake who won the first running of the Greenalls Whiteley Gold Cup at Haydock in 1969 and trained Border Rag who was 2nd at the Cheltenham festival.

Before training horses Sandy had a successful rugby career winning the Scottish Championship with Kelso, playing for the South of Scotland on numerous occasions including games against the All Blacks and Australia, and representing Scotland B. He rode in a few point to points but rugby and racing did not mix.
